A commonest being after the patient develops a fissure a chronic fissure what we call as fissure is nothing but a small cut. If the motions are very hard and if the sphincters are tight not opening then it will tear and come out. When it tears a little part of skin also comes out that is called sentinel tag or sentinel pile or if it remains for long periods then it goes on becoming a little longer and bigger then that is called a skin tag. That is one of the commonest cause of skin tag other causes are small external hemorrhoids where there will be blood clot and then that gets dissolved and hemorrhoids get cured and skin tags remain there or surgically. When we operate a certain areas of skin if we leave they look like skin tags the other dangerous things which can be looking like skin tags are warts around the anus they are called perianal warts caused by viral infections and usually sexually transmitted infections and they have to be treated vigorously and properly but most of the skin tags per se need not be treated. It is we need not remove it or do some surgery for it unless it is associated with fissure.
