Swiftly reacting to this potential act of fraud, the distressed cardholder reached out to Marriott. She emphatically conveyed that she neither recognized the individual staying at the hotel nor had she made any reservations with Marriott in Atlanta. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the hotel's manager promptly contacted the Chamblee Police Department, initiating an investigation into the suspicious financial transactions. Upon their arrival, the police officers were briefed by the manager, who explained that the modus operandi of these scammers typically involved online room bookings and an inconspicuous mobile checkout process. This approach allowed the individuals to sidestep identity verification at the hotel's front desk, creating a dilemma for both the guests and the establishment.
